B.A. program:

A minimum of 128 credits are required for graduation, including 28 credits of core coursework, 39 credits required by the department, and a minimum of 61 credits of elective courses.

M.A. program:

A minimum of 39 credits are required for graduation, including 3 credits required by the department, a minimum of 30 credits of electives, and 6 credits for one's thesis. Addionally, all M.A. students are required to pass examinations in the following to language categories to graduate:

1. The first language category: Taiwanese/Hoklo, Hakka, aboriginal languages, and Mandarin Chinese. M.A. students must choose one of these four languages to complete the degree.

2. The second language category: M.A. students must choose one additional foreign language to complete the degree.

Accredited M.A. program (part time):

A minimum of 30 credits are required for graduation, including 3 credits required by the department, a minimum of 21 credits of electives, and 6 credits for one's thesis.

Ph.D. program

A minimum of 36 minimum credits are required for graduation, including 6 credits required by the department, a minimum of 18 credits of electives, and 12 credits for one's thesis. Addionally, all Ph.D. students are required to pass examinations in the following to language categories to graduate:

For Taiwanese Ph.D. students:

Students must obtain an advanced proficiency level in one of the below categories, and a basic proficiency level in the other.

1. The first language category: Taiwanese/Hoklo, Hakka, aboriginal languages, and Mandarin Chinese. Ph.D. students must choose one of these four languages to complete the degree.

2. The second language category: Ph.D. student must choose two additional foreign languages to complete the degree.

For foreign Ph.D. students:

Foreign students must obtain a total of three language certifications to graduate, two of which must be at an advanced proficiency level, and one at a basic proficiency level.

1. The first language category: Taiwanese/Hoklo, Hakka, aboriginal languages, and Mandarin Chinese. Ph.D. students must choose one to two of these four languages to complete the degree.

2. The second language category: Ph.D. students must choose one to two additional foreign languages to complete the degree. The foreign language category includes foreign student's native languages.
